Back in Yazoo City

It was a good Saturday/Sunday a.m. in Boyce, LA, Wilda Baptist Church. Had a really good crowd of many “non church” members Saturday night as I shared the gospel through music and ventriloquism.
Today was pastor appreciation Sunday so after they finished the presentations, I began. I led in worship, played my horn, used The Professor to challenge then preached. It was a good morning. I headed back to Yazoo City where I will help dad tomorrow and Tuesday morning before driving to Meridian, MS, for the UPWARD Football program.
We appreciate continued prayers on behalf of Patty and her mom. Her mom is beginning to get consistently irritable and aggitated toward evening. Throughout the day she is ok but in the evenings becomes paranoid and feels “they are up to something”. It’s a difficult time so your prayers are appreciated.

Blessings,
John

Friday, Yazoo City

Dad was discharged from Kings Daughters hospital this morning around 10 a.m. We got him home and he sat in his chair and began reading the paper. Nice to see him there. Soon I helped him take a shower and he decided, after that event, that “1 a day showers” were not necessary. Kinda funny but boy, did he wear himself out.
I was able to get some work done in prep for this weekend as dad slept this afternoon. Also ran to the store for mom and drugstore to pick up dad’s meds.
My youngest brother, Jeff, and his wife Suzy drove in from San Antonio for the weekend. The plan is for me to head to Alexandria, LA, tomorrow through Sunday a.m. then head back to Yazoo City. Jeff leaves Monday morning.
Appreciate your prayers,
John

Yazoo, Thurs

I’ve arrived in Yazoo City after a 9 1/2 hr drive. Went by to see Patty’s mom and dad then went on to the hospital to see dad. Still planning on releasing him tomorrow to come home.
Pray all goes well as we get him situated at home. Pray for Patty as she continues doing a very difficult job helping her mom in this very difficult time.
I’ll get things arranged here then head on to Boyce, LA, outside Alexandria for Saturday and Sunday.
Blessings,
John

Revival, Wednesday, Hartwell, GA

Thank you for the encouraging notes as I continue to do the work without Patty. It’s difficult but God is in control. We had a rough beginning to the night. Before the service started a big storm moved through and we lost power twice. The pianist (they only have the one) has a 6 year old who fell and had to be taken to the hospital. He seemed fine but needed to be checked out so I had to redo the service so I could use all tracks.
There were a few distractions tonight with the AWANA kids and students present that haven’t been there but the seed was planted and we pray Oak Bower Baptist Church will see fruit in years to come.
I head out tomorrow for Yazoo City to see Patty and family before heading on to Boyce, LA, for the weekend.
Thanks again for the prayers!

Hartwell, GA

Hi friends. It was a long day on Saturday as I left to drive up to Hartwell. My heart was heavy knowing Patty was having such a difficult time ministering to her mom in Yazoo City. I then got in Auburn football traffic. Once through that I got to Atlanta in time to get in Georgia Tech football traffic. Whew. Took a while to get here.

Services have gone well. We’ve not had a lot of movement but God has been really obvious in His presence and the people have been very receptive. Still, I would like to see more movement but that’s not my call.
Pray for Oak Bower Baptist Church as we continue the work. Pray for my concentration. Part of me is still with Patty and the family in Yazoo City.
I’ll try and update you but I’m sitting in McDonald’s tonight borrowing their WiFi. We go through Wednesday night and I’ll be heading to Yazoo City on Thursday.
Blessings,
John

Sorry

Hi friends and thank you for checking in as you do. I apologize for you checking in only to see the same ole same ole for several days. It’s been quite a difficult few days and maybe an explaination will help with your understanding.

Last Wednesday, (Oct. 13) I headed to Yazoo City to check in on my parents as well as Patty’s. She was already there having been there since the Sunday before. She told me she was shocked at how far her mother seemed to have digressed in her stroke recovery even though taking therapy regularly. We saw it more than her dad since he was there everyday and we had not been there in a couple of weeks. On Thursday Patty called the doctor and he suggested they go to Jackson, Baptist Hospital, to have some addtional test done by a neurologist. Test on Friday morning revealed a malignant brain tumor located in the left frontal lobe. It is very aggressive and inoperable.
Patty has remained with her in their house. Home health handled everything until yesterday when hospice joined in. Patty said that although this has been the most difficult time of her life it has also been the sweetest time with her mom.
We appreciate your prayers for God’s mercy and strength through this difficult time.
I am currently at home and preparing for upcoming revival services in Hartwell, GA, at Oak Bower Baptist Church. Pray that God shows up and does what only He can do.
Blessings,
John

Yazoo, Thursday

It was a good day today as I spent the day in the hospital room with dad. This gave us some good time and gave mom some time away to run to the beauty shop and whatever errands she felt like running.
We had what appears to be a set back today. Patty’s mom was acting strangely. Most of you are aware she is trying to rebound from a stroke. We’ve noticed that even with all the therapy she has been undergoing, she doesn’t seem to be making any headway and if anything seems to be digressing.
After a really rough morning, Patty called the family doctor who has been reading all the recent test and he asked them to take her to Jackson. Baptist Hospital. He believes she may have a brain tumor.
Please pray. This is very difficult as many of you know.
I’ll be heading to Marmaduke, AR, tomorrow and Patty will stay and minister here.
Blessings,
John

Yazoo City

Hi and thanks for checking in. It was a good trip to Yazoo City as I layover a couple of days and visiting with parents before heading to Marmaduke, AR, for the weekend.
Dad is still in the hospital and trying to get stronger. He seems to be doing pretty well but his balance is not good so all physical therapy is done very carefully.
Patty’s mom seems to have had a second stroke. Seems more aware of things in the afternoon than she is in the morning. Both physical and occupational therapist are working with her each week. Her dad is still fighting cancer and continues with chemo treatments.
Trying to make sure all the parents are provided for and trying to balance that with the ministry is proving difficult but God is faithful and we are so blessed and grateful.
Thank you for your continued prayers on our behalf.
